About Rocky Slims
Drena Gashi, Angelo Romano and the GL Hospitality Group are proud to announce the opening of Rocky Slims at 338 Third Avenue (at 25th Street) and the Rocky Slims Slice Shop, located next door. The restaurant offers Chef Romano's (Roberta's, The Pines) contemporary take on Italian-American cuisine, with dishes like House-Made Mascarpone with Dried Tomato, Leeks and Grilled Bread; as well as the Sesame Bread with Apricots and Lardo; and Wood Roasted Chestnuts and Fennel in Sambuca. There is also a selection of contorni dishes like Bosc Pears with Guanciale and Buttermilk; Sunchokes with Parmesan, Parsley and Rye; Fennel with ‘Nduja and Tangerine; and Celeriac with Stracciatella and Charred Scallion. Other highlights include seasonally inspired brick oven pizzas that are wood-fired using oak as well as a variety of salumi, house-made pastas, salads, fish, meats and vegetables. Chef Romano also curated the wine list that showcases accessible, small production, organic wines from Italy and France. The cocktail list crafted by Lucinda Sterling (Middle Branch) and is specifically customized to pair with Romano’s recipes.
Rocky Slims is designed by Josh Held Design, and is a combination of rustic and industrial decor, with warehouse windows, reclaimed wood, brushed steel beams, and fully retractable garage doors that will be open during warmer months with additional outside seating. The restaurant features an open kitchen in which guests can watch the chefs and pizzaiolos in action. The dining room is open Monday through Saturday for Lunch and Dinner and Sunday Brunch service. The Outside seating is open during the warmer months.
In addition to the formal dining area, Rocky Slims also operates a classic New York slice shop from a side entrance towards the rear of the restaurant that offers delivery and is open daily from 12pm to 10pm. The slice shop's pies are cooked in a brick oven and made with organic flours and local salumi.

Angelo Romano - Executive Chef
Florida native Angelo Romano’s food-centric, Italian-American upbringing gave this chef a logical first step into the kitchen. Learning to cook with family as a child, Romano began to develop an understanding of flavors and how they interact.
From budding food lover to culinary student, Romano solidified his commitment to the kitchen with courses at the Culinary Institute of America, and with an intense work ethic and love he dived into the New York restaurant scene. Romano honed his own skills at Manhattan’s Lupo Osteria Romana before decamping to Brooklyn, where he helped develop the food at Roberta’s for more than two years.
In September 2012, Romano ran the kitchen at The Pines, the Gowanas restaurant that blends Italian inspiration with purposefully chosen Asian ingredients. His role there earned him a Star Chefs Rising Star in 2013. Now at Rocky Slims, Romano has created a menu of new Italian-American cuisine using carefully sourced ingredients that are transformed into flavorful compositions with a focus on extracting maximum flavor. Chef’s goal at Rocky Slims is to offer an array of new Italian-American cuisine experiences in the space, from the organic flours used to make the square pizzas, the local salumi, the pastas, the contornis and the brick oven slice shop in the back.
Drena Gashi - Partner
Born and raised in Manhattan, Drena got her start in the hospitality sector at an early age when she began working for her father’s restaurants. Drena graduated from Baruch College with a degree in Business Communication and worked in the finance sector before she realized her true calling was in the hospitality world. Her love of food, travel and dining brought her back to her roots, and she continued her father’s legacy of running some of New York City's most beloved neighborhood restaurants. Drena formed GL Hospitality Group in 2014 with the first project, Mama Ghanoush, a Lebanese restaurant in Murray Hill. Their newest project is Rocky Slims and the Rocky Slims slice shop, an Italian American dining concept and pizzeria.
